A little story about some shoes. Image 4824091 Dear [FIRST NAME], We were about to trash or recycle these shoes, then i remembered that Van Gogh painted a pair of shoes, actually he painted many pairs of shoes! So, to try being "just like Van Gogh" ;) ha-ha, not really ... i decided to paint shoes too! The following shows my process with the painting. i preface the pictures to say i painted the shoes on a canvas that held a painting made for the February 2022 12x12 fundraiser exhibit at our city museum. The canvas first had an acrylic underpainting and drips with acrylic paint and ink as one of the first layers. Then i used cold wax and oil to make the 12 x 12 painting "Energy vs Anergy". drip 12x12 this is the orientation i used for my shoe painting Then i began painting the still life shoes and the progress pics are below. shoe1 charcoal drawing (over the oil & cold wax ... tricky!) shoe2 adding my color shoe3 upright shoe needs laces! B&W Asolos b&w Asolos _____ slip in shoes VG These 2 paintings of shoes painted by Vincent were some of my inspiration. i actually got to see Van Gogh's painting of the dark, slip-in style shown here on the left/top at the Houston Art Museum a few years ago (that is the photo that i took). Image 4824102 _____ Here are the shoes we saw in the window in Avignon! Forgot i had a photo ... took it before buying because we thought maybe we would get some like them when we got home, but nope, we bought them there! shoes in Avignon _____ Gray Asolos Gray Asolos oil & cold wax over acrylic underpainting on canvas 12 x 12 inches _____ i already posted this painting on social, but it is not "live" on my website yet (i know you have a picture that my Boldbrush people already shared to your emails ... i don't have control over that, but it is ok!). i just wanted you guys to see this progress & info post first ... usually do things like this on my studio journal, but just felt like putting it in a newsletter this time! i plan to publish Gray Asolos to my website on Wednesday, Sept 14. Thank you so much for reading this and being my loyal subscribers! i love knowing you are there! If you do know anyone else who might like to receive these about once-a-month newsletters, please send them my way! (i think you can just forward this email?) They can sign up Here! Stay healthy and safe and enjoy this season of senescence.
