Painting (not so much) and
sight seeing adventures with Sadie the camper van!

Somewhere in Nevada
Dear Subscriber,
I am still unbelieving that we have this camper van. Our first
"shakedown" trip was all about learning some of the ins and outs of van
life, and its operating systems. We drove from Boulder, CO, where we
purchased it from a lady who took very good care of her, to Newport,
Oregon! The van will be safe and sound under shelter until we get back
there to pick her up for another adventure, this time perhaps not being
quite as destination-focused (?).
I must have been so excited when packing my gouache kit that I forgot
to pack my brushes! So all I had was a water brush (the kind you can
use with watercolor pencils, with water in the handle) to paint with. I
only made one poor gouache painting and a couple of drawings on this
trip.

For painting and drawing in future trips, I will have the gouache kit
that I left in the van, and bring brushes for it of course! But I also
will consider my oils. I think my Coulter easel will be a really good
one for van travel. I will decide between water soluble oils and
regular. The easel, canvases, tripod, paint, etc etc will take up room
in the very small space we have, so I will consider all the options.
(But more space than a tent!)

If you are a fan of Juneau Trail Mix , or
this is your first introduction, you may want to check out their
website and investigate & bid! on items their annual Trail Mix Auction
(also a dinner) on November 22. They are fundraising during this event
to raise money to support their annual operations and to expand their
volunteer program, the "heart and soul" of Trail Mix. In support I have
been donating paintings to the cause for several years and this year I
am donating 3 prints of Mt Jumbo (aka Mt Bradley, highest point on
Douglas Island). It was a painting I made several years ago and liked
it so much I had a few prints made.

Also, our plein air painting group Juneau's Plein Rein Painters
, has been creating a
calendar for 23 years, and I am proud to say I have 2 paintings in the
2026 version. I would like to show you, my very dear subscribers, a
first look; I don't know what months these are featured, it will be a
surprise for me, too.
